BET OF THE DAY

Physique (3.30 Newmarket) is a gelding that has demonstrated promising form in both of his races since joining the skilled trainer Pam Sly, making him a strong contender to secure his first victory of the season today.

Last year in Ireland, he showcased his capabilities by leading the pack in a tough handicap over a seven-furlong distance at the Galway Festival in August.

This year, Physique has had two races at shorter distances, finishing fourth in a large field at Doncaster and then placing seventh at Newmarket while racing too close to the non-favored stands’ rail.

His optimal performance has been achieved when he’s led the field over longer trips, so it would be surprising if similar tactics are not employed today, particularly with no clear front-runner in this race.

Constitution Hill is expected to overcome State Man in the upcoming Boodles Champion Hurdle (6.40) at Punchestown. Despite recent setbacks, including notable falls at Cheltenham and Aintree, he is anticipated to return to his previous outstanding form.

Trainer Nicky Henderson has indicated that Constitution Hill has been performing well in training, and the change in rider—due to regular jockey Nico de Boinville’s injury—may bode well for his chances. Constitution Hill previously dominated State Man during the 2023 Champion Hurdle, and while State Man has won this title for the past two years, Constitution Hill is set to reaffirm his dominance.

Golden Ace, who capitalized on State Man’s last-flight mishap to achieve a surprise victory at Cheltenham in March, will also be competing, alongside fellow mare Kargese, who won the County Hurdle convincingly.
