Congress suffered a major setback in Himachal Pradesh

Several MLAs of the Congress cross-voted in favor of the BJP in the Rajya Sabha election in Himachal Pradesh.

As a result, BJP’s Harsh Mahajan wins the single Rajya Sabha seat by defeating Abhishek Manu Sighvi of Congress. Both the candidate get 34 vote each and Mr. Mahajan get declared winner by draw of lots.

Further, BJP is planning to move a no-confidence motion. This is a big upset for the prestige of Congress as it has 40 MLAs in the Himachal Pradesh. This claim of BJP for the no-confidence motion got support when Chief Minister Sukhu claimed that 5-6 MLAs of Congress were taken away by Haryana Police and CRPF.
