BJP Leader Prashant Umrao Accused of Spreading Rumours:- A complaint has been filed against a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Uttar Pradesh for spreading fake news about the “killing” of Bihar migrant workers in Tamil Nadu on social media.

In addition to the BJP leader, an editor of a newspaper and the owner of a local daily have also been named by the Tamil Nadu government for inciting enmity and a police team has been created to apprehend them.

Prashant Umrao, the BJP’s spokesperson in the state of UP, had alleged that 12 people from Bihar were hung to death in Tamil Nadu for speaking Hindi and had attached a photo of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin.

The tweet has since been removed. The Police have charged Umrao with creating dissension between the people on the basis of language and region, and a separate case has been brought against the editor of Dainik Bhaskar and the proprietor of Tanvir Post for stirring up riots.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has released a statement to assure the safety of migrant workers and district collectors have issued appeals in Hindi to allay their fears. The governments of both states are monitoring social media to combat any further false reports. Bihar has sent officers to Tamil Nadu to meet migrant workers in company with local officials.
